USU Chemistry: A Beginners Course in Chemistry
USU Chemistry: A Beginner's Course in ChemistryUSU Chemistry is a college level introductory chemistry course that serves as the foundation for any education in chemistry. The College of Science offers courses in chemistry and if you take one of these courses, you will end up with a good understanding of chemical reactions and other phenomena in chemistry. The USU chemistry department is very prominent and it is the main reason that colleges and universities are now offering courses in chemistry.USU Chemistry is best suited for a pre-college student because it is simple and easy to understand. Students need not worry about finding answers to their questions since the syllabus contains plenty of sources on all sorts of subjects such as chemistry and its various branches. Students will get to have an understanding of the foundations of chemistry and the way it works, as well as basic techniques in chemistry. This makes chemistry a very practical subject and not just one of those subjec ts that you have to take for test. The USU Chemistry Department provides accredited courses and students who have earned a degree in Chemistry from a recognised institution may also apply for admission in the department of USU Chemistry. They provide labs where students can practice their chemistry skills before they undertake their own classes. The labs can also be used to do an independent study of chemistry.Students in USU Chemistry are given more flexibility in the term of learning than in some other schools and this is another advantage for them. Since chemistry is such a general subject, there is always more scope for creativity in the subject. Students in USU Chemistry can be engaged in different fields of study, such as biological science, computer science, chemistry and other related fields. To understand chemistry, one needs to be taught by professionals in chemistry, and this is the case at USU. Brain Rules Part 2 6 More Ways to Improve Brain Function
Brain Rules Part 2 6 More Ways to Improve Brain Function Improving Academic Performance In this second installment of Brain Rules, Iâll introduce 6 additionalbrain rules to leverage in understanding the ways we think, learn and retain new information. Hopefully, you can incorporate some of these into your routine to help you study more efficiently and effectively. ATTENTION Despite the proliferation of technology in our lives; tools and resources, to help us multi-task for school and work, the human brain can only focus on one thing at a time. Therefore, itâs imperative to find a nice quiet place to study and focus on the task at hand. Sure, you can listen to some music on your earbuds if that helps you tune out the world around you, but you should not be simultaneously texting your friends or surfing-the-web. When we are learning new information in a course lecture or a presentation, most audiences check out after 10 minutes. Therefore, the speaker must know how to engage their audience through anecdotes and a colorful delivery. We can put these tools to use when studying as well. If we simply read our textbook for hours in preparation for an exam, it probably won't hold our attention either. After reading a chapter in your book, take a quick break to watch a video corresponding to the subject matter. You can find these tools via great sites like Khan Academy or Crash Course videos cover material from complex mathematics to chemistry and even US History. This way, you are more likely to pay attention and retain the material. SENSORY INTEGRATION The reason that we are more likely to retain information that keeps our attention is that it usually stimulates more than one of our senses. Therefore, when we enhance our study sessions beyond reading and taking notes, we are practicing sensory integration by stimulating more of our senses at once. Humans' senses evolved overtime to work together. For instance, our vision influences our hearing, so when we see something and hear it these two senses work in tandem to better cement a memory. How can you incorporate sensory integration into your study skills? Try to infuse your learning process with as many senses as possible. Read something, write it, recite it aloud, draw a diagram of it â" this way you are incorporating; sight, touch, sound, and vision increasing your chances of retaining the information. SLEEP Just because your body is asleep does not mean your brain is. Neurons fire in our brain all night long while we sleep, perhaps replaying what weâve learned that day. We need sleep to learn. A lack of sleep impedes our attention, memory, quantitative skills, logical reasoning and manual dexterity. These are all skills we utilize when studying, learning, retaining and recalling information. What is the point of putting in many hours of studying only to be unable to retain and recall the information due to a lack of sleep? Donât pull all-nighters. Whether studying for finals or a major college or professional school admissions exam, the night before the test you should be focusing on de-stressing, eating a healthy dinner and going to sleep at a reasonable hour. If you have given yourself adequate time to prepare for this crucial exam, you should not feel hard pressed to do last minute studying. EXERCISE Exercise boosts brain power by increasing oxygen flow to the brain, raising our mental sharpness and cognition. In recent years, colleagues have began going for âwalking meetings,â instead of being cooped up in an office or conference room, co-workers will step outside to walk and talk. Aside from getting some fresh air or a change of scenery, this type of meeting also promotes getting moving, rather than remaining sedentary at a desk. In addition to this, the exercise during your walk gets your blood pumping and ultimately your brain firing. You can even put this into practice when studying. When you hit a wall and your mind starts to wander, go for a brief walk, this will increase blood flow to your brain and help you to reset. You could also walk with a classmate and quiz each other over the material along the way. EXPLORATION We learn through exploration, and not by passively taking in information. Just as the steps in the scientific method, we learn by observation, hypothesis, experiment and conclusion. When learning new information of any subject matter, not just science, it pays to put these same steps to use. Observe the material, whether from a class lecture or reading your textbook, hypothesize regarding the larger implications of this new material, what is its place in the larger narrative or subject matter? What conclusions can you draw from the new information? Remember to remain flexible and not rigid when learning, our brains are malleable into adulthood so we can continue to learn and take in new information. If you are rigid and regimented in the ways you learn and have reached a plateau in your studying, try infusing your learning with a new method, approach problems from a different perspective and you may be more successful. WIRING Every brain is wired differently, no two humans have the same brain, not even twins. The way our school system is set up is counter-intuitive to this fact as we are all graded on the same scale and held to the same standards, despite learning and understanding information in totally different ways. How does understanding this impact your everyday learning? First off, stop comparing yourself to your peers. If we all are wired differently, then it is unfair to compare our ability to learn, comprehend or perform to other classmates. This is not to say that you should be totally oblivious to the performance of those around you, because ultimately a certain amount of competition can be healthy. But overall, it would serve you better to tap into the ways you learn, and whichtactics are most affective for you to learn and retain new information. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Understanding how ourbrains are wired and the ways they operate is an invaluable tool in using our mental acumen to the fullest potential. Pinpointing the tactics we respond to when absorbing information and surefire ways to retain that information can be priceless in our pursuit of learning.

The New SAT Its Never too Early to Know the Facts
The New SAT Its Never too Early to Know the Facts The New SAT: Tips From A Private Orange County Test Prep Tutor Some students in their junior and senior year of high school will be able to take the current SAT, soon to be known as the old SAT. However, younger students will be taking the new SAT starting in 2016. Its never too early to start prepping for this new SAT now that we are on the countdown to the major change (READ: 5 Awesome SAT Apps). 1. Take a practice exam The College Board is planning to release preliminary information and a guide for the new SAT in the summer of 2015. Apparently there will be five practice tests available and its recommended that any student who will be taking the new SAT take one of these tests ASAP. 2. Keep on reading, keep on writing Because the essay portion of the SAT will experience substantial changes, students should keep up with their reading and writing starting now. Current students often report that they struggle most with the essay, either due to writers block or lack of practice. If the current SAT essay seems difficult, just wait for the new SAT! The 2016 SAT will require students to comment on the authorâs opinion rather than their own. Students should start practicing their critical reading skills so that they can make a summary of the authorâs opinion of just about everything they read, from a pop-culture magazine to the newspaper to a school assigned novel. 3. Work with a tutor Although itâs true that tutors will be learning about the new SAT along with their students, the majority of SAT tutors will take their own practice test to understand the intricacies of this new exam before they ever work with students. This means that your private Orange County SAT tutors will have a six-month advance from when their students will take the real exam. Itâs recommended that students taking the new SAT buy multiple test prep books to supplement their studies until their tutors can get a baseline of what the average student gets on the new SAT (READ: A Timeline Study Guide For The SAT). 4. A few basic differences -The new SAT will be five minutes longer than the current SAT, not a big difference. -The new SAT will have a reading and writing section thatâs evidence-based, an updated and more difficult math section, and an entirely separate essay section. -The new SAT will have only four answer choices to choose from, as compared to the five answer choices on the current SAT. This will make process of elimination easier for 2016 students. -The new SAT will not have penalties for incorrect answers. This will be a major change in the test prep process as students will need to approach the practical applications of choosing an answer differently. (Students who have taken the ACT will already be familiar with this test prep procedure.) -The new SAT will be on a 1600 point scale, while the current SAT has a perfect score of 2400. Tutors and parents are probably more familiar with the 1600 point score, because this was used up until the turn of the 21st-century. In short There are still several months left until the start of the new SAT, but students who will be taking it are advised to start preparing as soon as possible. Since the College Board is releasing practice exams in the summer of 2015, its recommended that students start their SAT prep at that point. Students who fall within both the new and old SAT exams, are highly advised to consult a tutor as to whether not they should take the current exam or if they should simply start preparing for the new one. How To Organize Bill Payments
How To Organize Bill Payments pexels.com Make a bill paying day. Every time you run out of an ingredient or type of food in your house, you do not go running to the supermarket immediately only to buy that one item, right? You either wait until you are low on food and must go shopping or you have given yourself a specific day of the week that you always grocery shop on. And you usually do not do so pell-mell, grabbing whatever you feel like and putting it in your cart, only realizing once you have arrived home that you forgot to buy some staple ingredients. No! You are much more organized than that in fact you sometimes even have a grocery list. Why should paying your bills be any different? Instead of trying to remember the due date of each bill payment and maybe missing it, assign yourself a day or two that is devoted to bill-paying. It should be the same day(s) every month and stick to that pattern. Decide that the 15th of each month (or the 1st and the 15th of each month) is when you are going to pay your bills. Choosing days closer to the days when you get paid is ideal so that you can be sure you have the money to pay the bills at those times. Go down your checklist of bills that need to be paid and sit there and do them all at once. That way, you will not forget or miss any and everything will be paid right on time (if not early)! Write it down. Sometimes it can even be hard to remember what bills you need to pay, not even mentioning when you need to pay them. Some are not monthly, which can be harder to remember, or their due dates can be different each month. The best way to keep your bill payments organized is to write everything down. Start at the beginning. What bills do you need to pay? How often? By which dates? Then write it down somewhere that you are going to look and check often. Are you the kind of student that writes everything on a whiteboard in your room to keep track? Do you live by the dictates of your planner and write everything down in it? Do you keep a piece of paper tacked to your fridge so that you see it each time you open it? Whatever is best for you, write down and keep your list there in easy access so that you never miss another bill payment again. pexels.com Keep everything together. A lot of companies have been slowly transitioning to only providing you with electronic bills that you can pay online. But many companies still prefer and insist on sending printed bills and those can be the hardest to keep track of. You have a busy daily life and sometimes, you can just toss the mail to the side. However, that is how bills get lost. And lost bills become unpaid bills and it can all be a big mess. Avoid this by keeping all your bills together in a safe place. As soon as you receive it, put it in the pile to be addressed on your bill paying day. If you have a space on your bookshelf, keep them held up on your fridge with a magnet, or safeguard them in a little basket; do what you need to to keep them together and in a place that you will not later forget. There is nothing worse than knowing you have all the bills and that they are all together but you still cannot pay them because you cannot remember where you hid them! You can also keep all your online bills in the same place. Email inboxes can be messy places! Create two folders devoted to bill paying. One folder can be labeled Unpaid Bills and the second Paid Bills. Keep those online bills in the Unpaid folder until that one or two days a month you sit down to pay bills, and once they are paid, move them into the paid folder!

Heterocyclic Chemistry
Heterocyclic ChemistryHeterocyclic Chemistry is a subfield of chemistry that are concerned with a class of compounds that contain more than one chemical element, and it can be subdivided into two major types. These are I) chemistry of h- and ii) chemistry of p- compounds.Chemistry of h- is the only type that is considered a branch of science, though not all of the scientific community considers it that way. This type of chemistry is focused on the development of compounds that contain an aryl ring. Many of the compounds produced in this field have properties that are similar to those of the substance that the aryl ring is supposed to replace.Heterocyclic Chemistry as a subject, however, is different from other chemistry because it focuses on individual substances and their properties that can't be found in any other compound. The focus of this type of chemistry is generally more restricted to the process of creation rather than the individual substances that are used in it. Chemists usually find that it is best to create compounds that have very little to do with each other. The process of creating a compound that is unique is usually accomplished by using a particular kind of laboratory apparatus known as a cyclohexane-adiabatic column. This column allows for the addition of small molecules to the surface of the sample in a controlled manner so that the ratio of those molecules can be altered in a certain way.Because the mixture of different molecules must be manipulated, they must be prepared correctly or else the whole experiment would fail. When trying to make a compound that has properties that are different from the ones of another substance, the manipulation of each of the ingredients is done at the same time. The properties of the compound is altered to match the properties of the rest of the compound. This usually results in a compound that is more stable than the original compound. The only thing that separates the methods used to make a compound from t hose used to create a single compound is that the former require much more time and effort than the latter. Although, since this method is a fairly expensive one, many chemists prefer to focus their energies on making a series of compounds instead of a single one.Heterocyclic Chemistry as a subject has always been one of the oldest branches of Chemistry. It was one of the first ones to be categorized under a single branch of Chemistry, which is what makes it a much more difficult area to get a grasp on. Chemists from the Victorian era up until today still consider it one of the hardest of all subfields of Chemistry.

For an explanation of precisely this, see our pieces on basic chemistry concepts or the essential chemistry terminology! If you buy them, they are usually made of plastic, and come with balls (representing atoms) and sticks (representing chemical bonds). The joy of these models is that you can build any molecule you want and actually see what is going on at a chemical level in your test tube. You can even make your own. Just get some little different coloured balls and some string or straws â" and make all the molecules you could possibly want!Getting Serious: The Pro Kit for Kitchen ChemistryBunsen burnerHonestly, this probably isnât going to be something you will need at home â" although we all can dream! The Bunsen burner is a tool that produces a very clean and clear flame from gas, and it is super useful in heating up solutions, burning elements for oxidisation, and seeing how substances react to heat. However, the problem is that they need to be connected to the gas mains â" and if you are a kid, your parents might not really trust you to use that (although, if you are an adult, your neighbours might not trust you either)! They can be a little tr icky to have installed at home.If you are serious, however, and if you are a very ambitious scientist, then go for it! No science experiment is complete without a Bunsen!Any idea why it's called a Bunsen burner? Check out piece on the world's incredible chemists to find out.Tripod and gauzeIf you are using a Bunsen, youâve got to remember one fairly obvious thing: stuff gets really hot when you put it over a flame! This is what a tripod and gauze are for: the tripod sits neatly over the Bunsen burner, and things â" such as a conical flask â" can be placed upon it in order to be heated up without you touching them; the gauze sits beneath the flask and spreads out the heat, so the whole thing warms up evenly!Anything more you want to know about chemistry? We're sure you'll find it in our guide to everything you need to study chemistry!
